The death of Richard Davis Smith, age 85, occurred Monday August 18, 2014 at his residence. Funeral services will be held Wednesday August 20, 2014 at 11:00 O'clock at the Gordon First Baptist Church with Rev. Maxie Threatt and Rev. Paul Curry officiating. Burial will follow in Hardies' Chapel Cemetery in Jones County.

Mr. Smith was a life long resident of Wilkinson & Jones County and was retired from Freeport Kaolin with over 40 years of service. He was a graduate of Gordon High School and was a member and deacon of the Gordon First Baptist Church. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.

Survivors include his loving wife of over 45 years, Vera E. Smith of Gordon. Two daughters, Andrea Mills (Hugh) of Ivey, Suzanne S. Birdsong of Gordon. Son Stan Smith (Beverly) of Gray. Grandchildren: Heath Mills (Dawn), Kevin Mills (Michelle), Richard Thompson (Keeley), Michael Birdsong, Nathan Smith (Toni), and Stephanie Smith. Great grandchildren: Ashley Mills, Austin Mills, Tyler Mills, Ethen Harcus, Ryan Thompson, Taylor Smith, Tyler Smith, Brayden Smith, Evy Smith.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 10:00 until the funeral hour at the Gordon First Baptist Church.

The family request in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to the Gordon First Baptist Church or Pine Point Hospice.
