James M. (Jimmy)Smith age 78 passed away Friday, October 20, 2017. Services will be held at 3:00 PM, Sunday October 22, 2017 at Hardies Chapel Church of Christ. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. Smith was born in Milledgeville and had made his home in Gordon for many years. He was a retired Letter Carrier with the United States Postal Service and served in the U.S. Air Force and the Air National Guard. He was preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Annie Layfield Smith, his wife Beverly Ann Watson Smith and a daughter Deborah Smith Thornton, sister Nita, brothers Tommy, Joe and Oma. And was a member of Hardies Chapel Church of Christ.

Survivors include his daughter Denene (Keith) Bartlett of McIntyre, brothers Roger Smith, of Vidalia and Ray Smith of Milledgeville. Grandchildren Will Thornton, Mason Bartlett and Lilly Bartlett.

The family will receive friends Sunday at the church from 2:00 until the funeral hour.
