Mrs. Helen Mercer Watson age 88, passed away Thursday, January 4, 2018. Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, January 6, at Hardies Chapel Church of Christ. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Watson was a native of Twiggs County but had made her home in Gordon. She was preceded in death by her parents William Harley and Selma Hamrick Mercer; her husband Vernon Ray Watson; her daughter Beverly Smith (Jimmy); her granddaughter Deborah Smith Thornton; brother William "Bill" Mercer; sisters, Harriett Mercer and Mildred M. Futch.

Survivors include her son Vernon Watson (Lynne) of Gordon; brother Newton Garner Mercer of Dry Branch; sisters, Patti Foster of Jeffersonville and Willie Ophelia Paulk of Dublin; two granddaughters, Denene Bartlett (Keith); Stacy Ford (Wes) both of Wilkinson County; five great grandchildren, Will Thornton, Mason Bartlett, Lilly Bartlett, Morgan Ford and McKenna Ford. The family will receive friends Friday, January 5, from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Couey Reece Stanly Funeral Home in Gordon.

In lieu of flowers and food, the family request memorial contributions to Hardies Chapel Church of Christ 100 Hardies Chapel Lane, Gordon, GA 31031.
